Medieval Manuscript Fragments Imaging Project (2014) See the Digital Rolls and Fragments website for further information. The aim of these workshops is to produce a digital online edition of an item, and these will be available through the DEMMF website soon. Two fragments have recently been used for workshops in the DEMMF series. Each description is supplemented by a summary of subsequent research as this has been recorded over time in an annotated copy of the Catalogue held in the Librarys Rare Books Reading Room. Research projects using the fragments Digital Editing and the Medieval Manuscript Fragment (DEMMF), 2017- present Jamess descriptions of these medieval manuscripts, 1-272 in his catalogue, are presented here in their entirety.

It is not known precisely how many were purchased by him, or the provenance of the other fragments.Ī full catalogue of the fragments can be found on the UCL Archives Database. Many of the fragments were purchased by Professor Robert Priebsch (Professor of German at University College London, 1898-1931) at a sale in Bonn in the early 1920s in order to give students practical experience of palaeography. A small number of texts such as fragments of works by Justinian are mostly of Italian origin and they may have been sourced from Bologna, where the university was a centre of legal studies in the medieval period. Other fragments have German annotation or relate to German places.

Users are encouraged to bring factual errors to the attention of Senior Archivist Joan Sibley at original materials in the Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts Collection are free of known copyright restrictions. The descriptions of the manuscripts in the database records contain information contributed by Ransom Center staff and volunteers, University of Texas at Austin faculty and students, and numerous scholarly users over many years. Please review the handling guidelines for examples of condition issues and techniques for avoiding damage during use. All use restrictions are specified in the descriptions of the manuscripts. On-site users should also note that some manuscripts are restricted from use due to condition. Please note, if you are making a request from a location other than the Reading and Viewing Room, the materials will not be paged until you arrive and notify the circulation attendant of your request.

To do so, you will be prompted to log in to your research account. You may use the database to request materials that you wish to view in person in the Reading and Viewing Room. The slide show at right includes a single image from each of the manuscripts that have been digitized. The Ransom Center is in the process of digitizing all of the items in this collection and more images will be gradually added here as they are completed.
